Pramono Calls on Residents to Maintain Peace and Harmony During Ramadan

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has called on all elements of society to maintain a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere during Ramadan, while prohibiting activities that could potentially disrupt public order during the holy month.

"Anything that could lead to unrest or disorder will not be permitted,"

Among the banned activities are Sahur on the Road (SOTR) and raids on restaurants that remain open during the daytime.

"Anything that could lead to unrest or disorder will not be permitted. Activities that help maintain comfort and order will be allowed," he stated on Saturday (2/14).

Pramono emphasized that the lead-up to the holy month should be filled with peace, especially as Jakarta is currently preparing for the Lunar New Year celebrations taking place from February 13 to 17, with the peak falling on Tuesday (2/17).

"I want to stress that welcoming Ramadan must be done in a spirit of peace and harmony. We are now in the period of Lunar New Year celebrations from February 13 to 17, with the Lunar New Year on Tuesday (2/17)," he said.

He noted that once the Lunar New Year festivities conclude, Jakarta's atmosphere will shift to welcome Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

"Starting on the 18th, Jakarta's atmosphere will fully transition to Ramadan and preparations for Eid al-Fitr. We are making thorough preparations, as the majority of Jakarta's residents are Muslim," he explained.

Pramono also shared that the Jakarta Provincial Government has proposed organizing haul ceremonies to honor prominent Betawi figures and Islamic scholars in the city.

He said the proposal was conveyed during a congregational dawn prayer and the closing of a dawn religious study session with habaib and ulema at Jakarta City Hall.

In addition, the administration will resume organizing the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur'an (MTQ) starting from the grassroots level. Previously, Pramono said, the Quran recitation competition was often held only at the provincial level.

"We will restart it from the grassroots to provide broader opportunities," he noted.
